The research, which analyzed more than 200 major data breaches from April 2024 to April 2025, revealed that a staggering 94% of the leaked passwords were weak, duplicated, or reused across multiple accounts. Only a tiny 6% of passwords were unique — a clear sign that many of us are still taking dangerous shortcuts when it comes to password security.
Common offenders like “123456,” “password,” and “admin” still top the charts, with millions of users continuing to rely on these easily guessable passwords. Shockingly, nearly a third of leaked passwords contained only lowercase letters and numbers, and 42% were too short (just 8–10 characters long).
